I’m simply suggesting that, in years past. labels used to push one single at a time — usually separated by months — and the public’s response would push later singles to the top. Nowadays, all of an album’s tracks are immediately available for mass consumption via downloads or streaming, so when a label tries to push a “second” single, like Republic Records is trying to do with Taylor’s “Opalite,” it’s harder for the public to suddenly crowdsource a song they’ve already been consuming ad nauseam for months, which is why it’s harder to get second No. 1 singles from the same album.
