This four-part series of articles was created in June 2015 to commemorate African-American Music Appreciation Month. They represent days of research with nearly 300 artists as candidates. The rankings are based on a number of criteria, as explained in the first and third parts. Over time, these rankings are certainly subject to change as artists continue to build their legacies.
